Trigger point release, sometimes associated with myofascial release, involves applying pressure to the tissue that connects all of our muscles. Trigger points are weakened or injured areas of a muscle that affect adjacent muscles. For example, if your neck hurts, it may be the result of an injured shoulder.
The affected connective tissue can harden and limit flexibility, blood flow, and cause recurring pain to areas throughout your body.
Through trigger point release therapy, pressure is applied to the area to release the connective tissue from the muscles. This allows patients to regain flexibility and the increased blood flow promotes healing to injured muscles. Other stretches and exercises are used to continue treating injured areas and also used as a preventative measure.
